Fun Easy Craft Ideas for Kids to Do at Home

We all have been spending most of our time with our children at home. This can be a test to any parent’s imagination to keep the little ones busy and entertained. We know ideas to have fun with the kids can get scarce after a while. So, we’ve come up with fun ideas for crafting activities with the little ones that require easy-to-get supplies like paper, glue, markers, and lolly sticks. Get your hands dirty and have some creative time with the whole family with these suggestions below.

  1. Unicorn Sticks

Create whimsical playtime with this easy-to-make figure.  All you need is:

  • Wooden stick
  • Coloured paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Pink and black felt tip pens
  • Gem stickers

Instructions:

Draw around the wooden stick on a piece of coloured paper and cut it out.

Wrap the paper you have cut out around the wooden stick and glue it to keep it secure – this is the unicorn’s body.

Draw a circle and two small triangles on the coloured paper and cut them out. The two triangles are the unicorn’s ears, glue them to the top of the circle and draw smaller triangles in the ears in pink.

With the black felt tip draw the unicorn’s eyes and add some small circles in pink for its rosy cheeks.

Glue the unicorn’s head to the top of the wooden stick – you will now see your unicorn slowly coming together.

Draw a slightly bigger triangle than before on a piece of yellow paper or card and cut it out. Glue it between the unicorn’s ears – this is the unicorn’s horn.

Finish off by decorating your unicorn with different coloured gem stickers.

You can also use your unicorn as a pretty decoration or as a bookmark.

  1. Giraffe Finger Puppet

Is there anything more fun than putting your own puppet show at home with the kids? Then try out this simple animal figure puppet. All you need is:

  • Yellow card
  • White card
  • Googly eyes
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Black felt tip pen
  • Brown felt tip pen

Instructions:

Cut out a circle from the yellow card. At the lower end of the circle cut two small circles – this is where your fingers will go so make sure you make them big enough for your fingers to fit comfortably.

Cut out a rectangle from the yellow card and stick it to the middle of the circle – this is your giraffe’s neck.

Cut out another circle and two small triangles for the giraffe’s face and ears. Glue the ears to its head, and its head to its neck – you should be able to see your giraffe slowly coming together.

Using the white card, draw and cut out two tentacles and stick them between the giraffe’s ears.

Stick down two googly eyes and draw a nose and a mouth using the black felt tip.

Your giraffe is now ready to star in its own puppet show. Now you know the technique, how about coming up with a few more animal figures?

  1. Make-your-own Airplane

Airplanes are always a success with kids. There’s something about flying that gets children lost in playtime. Create your own little airport at home by creating a few of these. All you need is:

  • 3 wooden sticks
  • 1 clothes peg
  • Foam sheet

Instructions:

Colour in the wooden sticks any colour you like. Try combinations like red and blue, green and orange, black and pink. Kids will love these!

Once the felt tips have dried, place the peg on its side and glue one of the wooden sticks on the top and one wooden stick on the bottom.

Make sure you haven’t glued them too close the end of the peg, they should be just off the centre. Cut the third wooden stick in half. Glue this to the opposite end of the pegs – this is the back of the aeroplane.

Cut a small right angle out of the foam sheet and glue this in the middle of the smaller wooden stick – this is the back of the aeroplane.

You are now ready to fly your plane!

  1. Superhero Sticks

Bring out the superpowers in your kids by creating these cute superhero figures. All you need is:

  • Wooden sticks
  • Felt tip pens
  • Coloured paper

Instructions:

Draw a colourful design on one side of the stick (this is your superhero’s body) – We have done different coloured stripes.

Cut a small rectangle, approximately 1.5cm wide, draw two eyes on it and glue it near the top of the stick. This is your superhero’s mask. Draw a big smile underneath the mask so your superhero is happy.

Now for the cape. Cut out a triangle shape, approximately 10cm wide and glue the stick to the centre of the triangle. Decorate the cape however you want. You could colour it in one colour or draw stripes or even a polka dot pattern.

Your superhero is now ready to fight crime!
