RMS Mystery Squishy Dumplings with the rare glitter in the middle

Why is everyone obsessed with Squishy Dumplings?

If you have a child between five and twelve, you have probably heard about Squishy Dumplings by now. Maybe one came home from a birthday party. Maybe your kid has watched a hundred unboxing videos and is now negotiating hard. Either way, here is what the fuss is actually about.

What is a Squishy Dumpling?

It is a soft, slow rise sensory toy shaped like a little bao bun, complete with a face. Each one comes sealed inside a bamboo style steamer basket, and here is the hook: you do not know which colour you are getting until you open it. The reveal is the whole event.

They are made from soft, squeezable TPR, the same slow rise material used in proper stress toys. Squeeze it flat and it slowly puffs itself back into shape. Kids find this endlessly satisfying. So do most adults, if we are honest about who keeps picking them up off the kitchen table.

A round glittery gold quackling stress ball with a cute face, sitting inside a beige plastic container with its lid propped open, set against a solid blue background.

Why did it go viral?

The trend has passed a billion views on TikTok, and it comes down to three things.

The reveal. Blind box toys work because the moment of opening is a small event every single time. Three dumplings means three reveals, not one toy.

The rares. Not every colour appears equally often. In the Shimmering Starlight Edition, the Galaxy Glitter is the rarest pull, and silver comes up less often than the standard colours. The chase is real, and it is what keeps kids trading and comparing at school.

The squish. Plenty of viral toys are fun for a day. This one earns its place in the pocket because the texture genuinely works as a fidget and stress toy. Satisfying to pinch, stretch and squash, then it slowly rises back.

The one on this site is the original

Here is the part worth knowing as a parent. The Squishy Dumpling that started the trend is made by RMS International, the Manchester toy company behind abeec. It is the same dumpling you will find on the shelf in major UK retailers. Same product, same factories, same UK and EU safety testing, CE and UKCA certified, age 3 and up.

The trend has attracted plenty of copies, some of them convincing at first glance. We have written a separate guide on how to spot the real one, because once a toy goes viral the dupes are never far behind.

The practical bits

Each standard dumpling is around 10cm across. The Giant is 17cm and takes two hands. If one gets sticky after months of squishing, rinse it in warm soapy water and dust it with a little cornflour to bring back the matte finish. Mini dumplings will also be available on the site in the next few days.

You can shop the full Squishy Dumpling range right here at abeectoys.com, with free UK delivery over £30. The same products are also on our eBay store if that is where you prefer to shop. Wherever you buy, it is the same genuine RMS dumpling.

One last tip. If you are buying for December, the Squishy Dumpling Advent Calendar is on pre-order now and ships in October. 24 doors, 24 mini mystery dumplings. It will not hang around!

A colourful advent-style gift box with numbered cartoon dumpling faces on a light blue box, shown open with a flat lower panel. A hand in a pink sleeve is holding a small wrapped gift. Contains 24 mini squishy dumplings.
